The Sacred Roots Beneath Your Feet
There are many ways to understand the human energy body. While most people are familiar with the seven primary chakras originating from the ancient yogic traditions of India, many contemporary energy workers, shamans, and healers also work with an expanded system of thirteen chakras. This broader framework extends our awareness beyond the physical body, connecting us more deeply with the living Earth beneath our feet and the vast cosmos above our heads.
Rather than viewing these energy centres as isolated wheels that simply become “blocked,” I prefer to see them as living relationships. Each chakra reflects a conversation between ourselves, Nature, and Spirit. When life flows with ease, these conversations feel harmonious. When stress, grief, trauma, or disconnection enter our lives, some voices become quieter while others dominate, inviting us to gently restore balance.
The crystals, herbs, and essential oils shared throughout this guide are not offered as cures, nor are they intended to replace appropriate medical care. Instead, they are companions, living allies whose unique qualities have been honoured for generations. Whether you hold a crystal during meditation, sip a nourishing herbal infusion, or breathe deeply with the scent of cedarwood or rose, these practices become invitations to listen more deeply to yourself.
So take a slow breath, place your feet firmly upon the Earth, and let us begin where every journey truly starts, not at the base of the spine, but beneath our feet.

The Earth Star Chakra
The Sacred Roots Beneath Your Feet
Located beneath the soles of your feet, approximately twenty to thirty centimetres below the Earth, lies the Earth Star Chakra. Although absent from the classical seven-chakra teachings, this energetic centre has become an important part of many modern healing traditions, because it reminds us of something our fast-paced world often forgets, before we can rise, we must first belong.
The Earth Star Chakra is not concerned with ambition or spiritual awakening. Its purpose is far more ancient. It anchors our spirit into the body, our body into the landscape, and our lives into the great web of Nature. It is through this chakra that we remember we are not separate from the Earth, we are expressions of it.
When this chakra is healthy and harmonised, there is often a quiet sense of steadiness that does not need to announce itself. You may feel calm during uncertainty, connected to your ancestors, nourished by time outdoors, and able to move through life’s challenges without losing your centre. There is an inner knowing that you are supported, even when the path ahead remains unclear.
When this energy begins to drift out of harmony, however, life can feel strangely untethered. You may notice yourself constantly overthinking, struggling to remain present, or feeling as though you are watching life rather than living it. Anxiety, overwhelm, and chronic busyness can all pull awareness upward, until we forget the deep intelligence that exists beneath our feet. Some people describe feeling “spaced out,” disconnected from nature, or unable to settle fully into their own body.
This is not something to fix or force into alignment. It is an invitation to return.

Crystal Allies of the Earth Star
This is where the mineral kingdom offers its quiet, grounding medicine.
Black Tourmaline has long been cherished for its deeply protective nature, helping us to feel contained within our own energy field while gently releasing dense emotional energy back into the Earth where it can be transformed. Smokey Quartz carries a similar gift, encouraging stability while dissolving heaviness without resistance.
Hematite draws awareness back into the present moment with a steady, anchoring pull, reminding the body what it feels like to simply be here. Petrified Wood speaks in an older language still, one of patience, endurance, and deep time. It reminds us that stability is not rushed, it is formed slowly, layer by layer, through lived experience.
Herbal Allies of the Earth Star
The plants that support this chakra often grow close to the soil, teaching through their relationship with the land itself. Burdock root reaches deeply into the earth, reminding us that nourishment begins below the surface, in the unseen places where strength is built. Dandelion, often overlooked as a common weed, embodies resilience and adaptability, thriving in places others resist while traditionally supporting the body’s natural processes of renewal.
Nettle, rich in minerals and vitality, encourages the rebuilding of depleted systems over time. It does not offer quick transformation, but steady replenishment, reminding us that strength is not manufactured, but restored. Together, these humble plants teach that grounding is not a concept, it is a lived, embodied process of remembering our place within the living world.
Aromatic Allies of the Earth Star
Among essential oils, few evoke grounding as profoundly as Vetiver. Distilled from the roots of a fragrant grass, its deep, earthy aroma seems to pull awareness downward, calming an overactive mind and encouraging presence in the body. Cedarwood carries the quiet strength of ancient forests, evoking a sense of shelter, stability, and belonging.
Patchouli reconnects us with the sensual experience of embodiment, reminding us that being in a physical body is not something to transcend, but something to inhabit fully.
When inhaled slowly and with intention, these aromas can become anchors, gentle reminders that safety can be felt, not just understood.

Earth Practices for Grounding
Balancing the Earth Star Chakra does not require elaborate ritual. In truth, it responds most deeply to simple, consistent relationship with the natural world. Walking barefoot across damp grass, tending a garden, sitting quietly beside an old tree, or allowing your hands to sink into cool soil can all become acts of remembrance.
Even the most ordinary moments can become grounding practices when approached with presence. Preparing a meal from root vegetables, drinking tea slowly, or simply noticing the weight of your body against the ground are all ways of returning to what is already here.
The Earth Star Chakra gently reminds us that we do not need to earn belonging.
We are already held within it.
Reflection
Perhaps the greatest invitation of the Earth Star Chakra is this,
you do not need to become more connected to the Earth, you already are.
Like every tree, river, and flower, you are part of the living landscape.
The Earth has been holding you since the moment you arrived, and it continues to do so with every step you take.
Invocation
“With every breath, I root more deeply into the living Earth. I am held, supported, and exactly where I need to be.”
